Pharmacotherapy of the Panic Disorder

Abstract
Panic disorder is characterized by unexpected, unprovoked attacks of cognitive symptoms (e. g, fear, anxiety, dread) and physical symptoms(e. g, chest pain, pain, pain, palpitations, trembling, choking, difficulty in swallowing) A number of
well-designed studies indicate that panic disorder is a chronic condition and also associated with serious personal, social, and economic consequences.
The authors review the pharmacologic treatments found to be effective for panic disorder, the tricyclic antidepressants, the monoamine oxidase inhibitors, the high-potency benzodiazepines, and the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. The
authors
also discuss pharmacotherapeutic recommendation for panic disorder, duration of optimal treatment, and discontinuation of drugs and its outcomes.
The authors conclude that most of antipanic agents are probably approximately equal in their clinical efficacy and that there currently is no the single drug of choice in the treatment of panic disorder. These medications all present own
advantages
and
risk. So, the choice of a pharmacologic approach may be guided by considerations of potential side effects and other clinical and pharmacologic concerns
